Affordable peace of mind

When undertaking a DNA test at the Life Story Therapeutic Centre DNA Clinic you will be assigned an individual case manager. He or she will guide you through your DNA test, take your DNA samples (mouth swabs) and offer you impartial support. You will be given the choice of how you initially receive your DNA test result, following which a range of counselling options will also be made available to you. Therefore you can choose the level of support you need as an individual/family.

What exactly does a DNA test involve?

Typically, you would make a half hour appointment to attend our Reading DNA Clinic to complete some registration and consent forms, pay the standard fee and give a DNA sample. In a Paternity test, we usually collect a sample of DNA from the mother, her child and the alleged father. All three can attend together or one adult may wish to attend separately.

For a child under sixteen years of age, we require the consent of an adult with parental responsibility. If we consider that the child is capable of understanding, we also require their consent.

Giving a DNA sample

Special swabs (like cotton buds) are gently rubbed on the inside of each person’s cheeks painlessly to collect some microscopic skin cells. The swabs are then sealed, labelled and sent to The DNA Clinics Ltd laboratory in Liverpool England for analysis.

Our fixed fee is £239.00 per case (includes one child, one mother and one alleged father). The fee is the same whether one or both parents are tested, and includes written test results detailing the laboratory’s findings. We charge £99.00 per additional person tested. You can pay by cash or credit card (no cheques).
 
 
DNA paternity test results

The usual in-laboratory time is 5–7 working days. (Express processing available.) Each participant over 16 can choose to receive written results by post or email. Or you may choose to return for an optional half hour Results Session where you will have the opportunity to reflect and to ask any questions.

We are pleased to be associated with DNA Clinics Ltd not least because of their policy of analysing 16 genetic locations in the tests they carry out. This is more expensive for the laboratory than inferior (less accurate) tests using only 8 or 10 genetic locations.
