Brendan Quinn IIST, RDST, SSTMem, BTER, IPTI Mem
As an individual member of the Bowen Therapist European Register (“BTER”) and the Society of Sports Therapists (“SST”), I am bound by their ethical framework for good practice and subject to the professional conduct procedures therein.
Having played a variety of sports, mainly at a highly competitive level and incurring, during that time, various injuries, I developed an appreciation in getting the athlete back to their sport. After one injury too many, I decided to study Sports Therapy and I qualified as a Sports Therapist in 1996 specialising in sports injuries and rehabilitation. During my experience as a Sports Therapist I have had the privilege to treat a variety of injuries, mostly through sports, but not limited to sporting enthusiasts!
As a practitioner I believe it is essential that the cause of problem is treated and not just the problem itself. I also believe that the client must know and understand what the problem is as this plays a major part in the healing process.
People of all ages incur injuries and I believe, with the standard of sports in some schools today, that children can highly benefit from ongoing preventative treatment and education. This will put them in good stead for their future life in their chosen sport.
Preventing injuries through education and preventative treatment is less painful, debilitating and frustrating for the client!
The Bowen Technique is a soft tissue remedial therapy named after its innovator, Tom Bowen. The technique involves the therapist using their fingers or thumbs to move over muscle, ligaments, tendons and fascia in various parts of the body. The work is very subtle, relaxing and gentle, involving no hard or prolonged pressure
As a result, the Bowen Technique is suitable for children and adults for a whole range of conditions, including asthma, hay fever, irritable bowel syndrome, migraines and stress as well as bad backs, stiff necks, frozen shoulders and tennis and golfer’s elbow.
