
Dr. David Purves - Clinical Pyschotherapist
Dr David Purves is a Principal Lecturer in Counselling Psychology at London Metropolitan University, having previously been the Course Director for the University Doctorate program in Counselling Psychology until February 2005. He joined the newly created Counselling Psychology Programme in 1999 at its inception and was influential in the creation of the current successful course.
Dr. Purves is a Consultant Chartered Counselling Psychologist, a qualified psychotherapist and a Chartered Scientist; he is Head of the Berkshire NHS Traumatic Stress Service, based in Reading. His clinical qualifications include: The British Psychological Society Diploma in Counselling Psychology and an Advanced Diploma in Psychotherapy. He is also a qualified practitioner of EMDR. Dr Purves is an Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society. He is also an expert witness to the courts on matters of trauma and PTSD.
Dr Purves has published a number of academic articles, and contributed to books on the training of therapists. He has talked nationally and internationally on subjects related to Trauma, PTSD and computerised cognitive behaviour therapy. He is also frequently asked by the media for interviews and acts as an expert psychologist recommended by the British Psychological Society on matters of disaster and trauma
Practices and specialities
Dr Purves is the co-developer of Blues Begone the innovative computerised cognitive behaviour therapy program that is now under clinical trials in the United Kingdom and in Canada.
Dr Purves offers cognitive behaviour therapy and EMDR for a range of problems including PTSD and other specialist areas

Qualifications
First class degree in Psychology from Lancaster University and a D.Phil in Experimental Psychology from the University of Oxford.
