I work with families, young people and couples as well as offering child focussed coaching for parents who are separating or have separated. As a systemic practitioner I offer ways of working with clients that enhance their abilities to have influence in their lives and relationships. My goal in counselling is the goal(s) of the clients(s) which they determine they want
I believe that what is important in counselling is providing a way of creating spaces in which I and clients can work together to create contexts in which clients are able to make their lives better.
I work creatively with clients and am not a therapist who sits in their chair. I do not make assumptions that I need to unearth some presumed hard-to-find problem lying in the past and rather act as a link to bring together a client(s) own resourcefulness. My work, which is very much solution-focussed looks for contradictions, exceptions to the descriptions that clients bring, to help them open up new possibilities based on their own skills and resourcefulness, whilst respecting the past.
An initial session will determine the appropriateness of the work, the goals of the work and what structure any future session make take. I offer sessions on a face-to-face basis, skype and am happy to discuss home visits.
As a member of the British Association of Counselling Psychotherapists, Association of Family Therapists and British Psychological Society I follow the ethical guildelines and codes of conduct laid down by these organisations.
My experience over the last twenty years has included organisational coaching, mentoring, individual and singles counselling, couple counselling, young peoples counselling and family therapy.
