Ms Liza Renyard - Cognitive Behaviour Therapist
THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST. UNFORTUNATELY, I CANNOT TAKE ON ANY NEW CLIENTS AT THE PRESENT TIME. PLEASE SEE OTHER PRACTITIONERS AT LIFE STORY.
As a member of the British Association of Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapists (BABCP), I follow their code of ethical conduct. I have worked as a therapist for ten years in the NHS and university settings. I work in private practice in Oxford and Reading.
I completed training in Postgraduate Diploma in Evidence Based Psychological Treatment at the Charlie Waller Institute at the University of Reading. Click here to see what the BBC said about the course.
Former clients have described me as warm and understanding. I value building a supportive therapeutic relationship in which you feel safe, empowered and on an equal status. Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) is a structured method, which enables you to identify unhelpful patterns that are causing difficulties such as those listed below. Together, we discover and try out new strategies that have more positive effects on how you feel.
The aim of CBT is in helping you understand why the difficulties are occurring now, how you can change their effect and help yourself feel better, and how to manage them if they arise in future. Research suggests CBT is effective in alleviating many of the difficulties listed below. The approach is highly individualised and tailored for each client.
I offer CBT for children and young people aged 8 to 18 years old. I can help with building confidence and social skills which may enhance academic performance. I also offer the cutting edge CBT therapy with children for whom anxiety is getting in the way of daily life (separation anxiety, social anxiety and worry etc). I work part-time at the Winnicott Centre at the University of Reading, a world renowned centre of research into child anxiety.
Additionally, I have a strong interest in eating disorders and offer the leading treatment for bulimia nervosa. I offer this therapy in the pure form it was developed. I receive supervision for this work at the Centre of Research on Eating Disorders at Oxford (CREDO) at the Department of Psychiatry at Oxford University.
