Affordable peace of mind
We have teamed up with DNA Clinics Ltd. to offer the most accurate DNA tests available. Their laboratory is in the UK and you can rest assured that the service is personal, discreet, confidential and ethical.
When you have a DNA test at the Life Story DNA Clinic you will be assigned an individual case manager. He or she will guide you through your DNA test, take your DNA samples and offer you impartial support. You will be given the choice of how you initially receive your DNA test result, following which appropriate counselling is available if you wish. These options enable you to choose the level of support you need as an individual or a family.
Why shouldn't I use a DIY kit?
Various DNA tests are available from many sources, including DIY kits obtained via the internet. But it’s important to be confident that your DNA test is totally reliable and accurate. Our tests offer the following important benefits:
- We provide a personal, face-to-face service
- Your case manager will be a trained and experienced counsellor
- Our counselling support is available to help all involved parties deal with the psychological impact of feelings that may arise before and after the tests are carried out
- Your sample is analysed in a professional United Kingdom laboratory
- Our DNA analysis procedure ensures superior accuracy because DNA Clinics analyse 16 genetic locations in the tests they carry out. Cheaper, inferior tests use only eight or ten genetic locations
What exactly does a DNA test involve?
Typically, you make a half-hour appointment here at Life Story to complete registration and consent forms, pay the standard fee and provide your DNA sample. When the sample is taken, special swabs (like cotton buds) are gently (and painlessly) rubbed on the inside of the cheeks to collect some microscopic skin cells. The swabs are then carefully sealed and labelled, and then securely sent for analysis to DNA Clinics’ laboratory in Liverpool.
DNA paternity test
In a paternity test, we usually collect a DNA sample from the mother, her child and the alleged father. All three can attend together, or one adult may wish to attend separately. If the people to be tested live in different parts of the country, we can offer two-centre DNA paternity tests. Processing the tests usually takes 5–7 working days, but express processing is available if required.
Each participant over 16 can choose to receive written results by post or email. Alternatively you may choose to return for an optional half-hour results session where you will have the opportunity to reflect and to ask any questions.
For a child under sixteen years of age, we require the consent of an adult with parental responsibility. If we consider that the child is capable of understanding, we also require their consent.
