CBT
The programme follows the stepped care model of healthcare delivery and leads to a BSc (Hons) Mental Health (CBT). The courses are held in Bristol and Reading.

This approach to healthcare delivery is accepted as a model for the application of mental health treatment within the Department of Health. Each course (see course programme) is linked to the appropriate level of the stepped care model that now underpins all mental health services across England.
The programme complies with required competences
In September 2007 the Department of Health published a report outlining a competence model for cognitive and behavioural therapy delivery. The report was commissioned by the Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) programme, with additional funding from Skills for Health and the Centre for Outcomes, Research and Effectiveness (CORE). It set out competences in a way that clarified the activities associated with skilled and effective practitioners in all parts of the care system.
Course validation and accreditation
Our programme has been fully validated by the University of the West of England, so it has recognised academic credit leading to a higher educational award. We have designed the course using the BABCP guidelines and are awaiting BABCP and BACP accreditation.
Work-based supervision
Work-based supervision is essential in the training and development of any CBT Therapist and is possibly the most important requirement for any CBT course. Supervised practice is available during Stages 1, 2 and 3 of the progression pathway, and will be enough to cover the 200 hours specified in BABCP guidelines.
Applying work-based supervision during the course is essential to enable delegates to practice CBT in their job roles. Doing this allows delegates to address problems in real time, rather than in a simulated situation. Delegates will be required to nominate a supervisor within their company who will then be assessed by our in-house team to ensure that they meet the requirements set in BABCP guidelines (available on request). If you cannot find an appropriate supervisor, please call a team member for a further discussion.
University of the West of England benefits
From stage one of the CBT progression pathway, all delegates will be registered as university students. This will enable access to the extensive University library and especially the Health and Social Care Faculty. All enrolled students will be entitled to use the full facilities of the University and are eligible for membership of the nationwide student union, which brings further benefits.
CBT Training Programme
The courses are held in collaboration with John Seymour Associates and the University of the West of England (UWE).
